The Honest Comparison
Every option below can build you a website. The differences are cost, speed, risk and what happens after launch. We've put them side by side — including the cases where we're not your best choice.
Side by Side
No strawmen. Freelancers and local agencies are genuinely great at some of these — we've marked where they win, too.
| Decision factor | Freelancer | Typical Local Agency | Codelith LabRecommended |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cost for a premium business site | ✓ $2–4k — the cheapest route, and honestly unbeatable value if you pick well. |
◐ $8–15k — polished output, but office rent and account managers are in that number. |
✓ $3–6k — senior team output at remote-studio overhead. Fixed quote up front. |
| Timeline | ◐ 3–8 weeks — fast when you're their only client, slow when you're one of five gigs. |
◐ 8–16 weeks — layered approvals and internal queues stretch every round. |
✓ 2–5 weeks — designer and developer work in parallel from day one. |
| Design quality | ◐ A lottery — some freelancers are brilliant; many resell the same template. |
✓ Consistent and professional, though often conservative and by-committee. |
✓ Senior designers only — judge our live demo portfolio before you pay anything. |
| Dedicated team | ✗ One person wearing every hat: design, code, QA, PM and support. |
◐ Yes on paper — in practice juniors build while seniors pitch the next client. |
✓ Designer + developer + project lead on every build. Seniors do the work. |
| Communication | ✓ Direct and personal — a genuine freelancer advantage. No middlemen. |
◐ Through an account manager. Answers arrive translated, and a day later. |
✓ Async-first in your timezone. You talk directly to the people building it. |
| Post-launch support | ✗ The classic risk — many vanish once the final invoice clears. |
✓ Reliable, but usually behind a monthly retainer contract. |
✓ 30 days of free fixes after launch, then optional care plans — no lock-in. |
| Scalability | ✗ Capped at one person's hours. Phase two waits for their calendar. |
✓ Can genuinely scale with you — at agency rates for every extra hand. |
✓ Team flexes with your roadmap: site today, app or SaaS tomorrow. |
| Risk if someone quits | ✗ Project stalls completely — there is no one else who knows the code. |
◐ Covered eventually, but expect handover friction and a reset on context. |
✓ Documented builds in a shared repo — any of our seniors can pick it up same-day. |
| NDA & contracts | ◐ Rarely offered; usually an ad-hoc email agreement, if anything. |
✓ Standard practice — proper paperwork is an agency strength. |
✓ NDA standard on every project, contract before any payment moves. |
| Payment protection | ✗ Often upfront bank transfers with little recourse if things go wrong. |
✓ Formal invoicing and terms — safe, if slower-moving. |
✓ Milestone payments via Stripe, PayPal or Wise — you release funds as work lands. |
✓ strength · ◐ depends / trade-off · ✗ common weak point — based on typical market rates for a premium 10–15 page business site, 2026.
Full Disclosure
We'd rather tell you this now than after a discovery call. Three situations where you should not hire us:
A simple one-page site with your details done well — a good freelancer is genuinely your best value here, and we'll happily say so.
If you only need clean implementation of finished designs, a skilled freelance developer will be faster and cheaper than any team.
For a text change here and a photo swap there, a long-term personal relationship with one freelancer beats any studio process.
If any of these is you, email us anyway — we keep a short list of freelancers we trust and we'll point you to one. It costs us a project and earns us a referral. Fair trade.

What You Get With Us
No juniors learning on your budget. Every screen is designed by someone with a portfolio you can inspect first.
Loom videos, written updates and a shared board — built for US, UK and Gulf timezones. No 6 a.m. calls required.
A clickable staging link every Friday from week one. You watch the site grow — no big-reveal surprises at the end.
The number we agree on is the number you pay. Scope changes are quoted separately, never smuggled into an invoice.
Your idea, data and traffic numbers stay confidential — we sign before the first call if you prefer. You own all code and design.
Pay by milestone through the platform you already trust, in USD, GBP, EUR or AED. Funds move only when work lands.
International Clients
I had quotes from a Denver agency at $12k and two freelancers under $3k. Codelith landed in the middle, showed me a demo in week one, and the finished site outclassed the agency mockups.
The honest bit sold me — they told me my first project was too small for them and pointed me to a freelancer. When we grew, they were the only studio I called back.
Milestone payments through Wise and an NDA before our first call. After two bad freelancer experiences, that structure alone was worth it — the Friday demos were the bonus.
FAQ
Geography, not corners. We're a remote senior studio — no office lease, no sales floor, no account-management layer. You pay for design and engineering hours, and almost nothing else.
Async-first: you get a written update and a Loom walkthrough at your morning, a staging link every Friday, and scheduled calls inside your business hours — US, UK and Gulf clients never wait overnight for answers twice.
You see design direction in week one, before full build begins. Two structured revision rounds are included at each milestone — and because payments are milestone-based, you're never funding work you haven't approved.
You do — 100% of code, design files and content, transferred on final payment. NDAs are standard: send us yours or use our template, signed before any sensitive detail is shared.
Decide With Real Numbers
We'll reply within 24 hours with a fixed quote and an honest note on whether we're the right fit — and a freelancer referral if we're not.
